For a while now, I’ve been focusing on Spanish cuisine. Today, let’s travel to another beautiful Mediterranean country – Greece, with my new recipe: Greek chicken with tzatziki sauce. When you think about Greek food, you probably imagine fresh cheese, yogurt, seafood, and of course – lots and lots of good sauces and meats.
That’s what I’ll try to recreate in this recipe. Although I haven’t had a chance to visit Greece, I love their food as it has tiny similarities to traditional Lithuanian cuisine. I’m talking about yogurt, raw cheese, kefir, lots of dill, and parsley.
I want to share with you my version of a Greek chicken recipe. We’ll be making Greek chicken with tzatziki sauce. It’s not just a typical chicken breast; we’ll make chicken patties with aromatic herbs and creamy homemade tzatziki sauce.

Chicken patties
Step 1: Put everything together
Mix ground chicken with herbs and spices. I also cracked an egg into the mix to help with the consistency while cooking. The egg binds the meat and prevents the patties from crumbling.
Add the egg, fresh dill and parsley, dried oregano, one clove of garlic, and a bit of ground cumin, and season everything generously with salt and pepper.
Step 2: Make the patties
In a large pan, pour a generous amount of olive oil. While the pan heats, form thin chicken patties in the palm of your hand. Scoop a bit of the mixture with a spoon into your hand and shape oval-shaped patties. Try to make the patties the same size and thickness to ensure even cooking.
Step 3: Cook the patties
Place the patties in a hot pan. Keep space between them so as not to let them stick together. Let them sear on both sides until golden brown. Once both sides have browned, you can remove the patties from the pan.
How to make homemade Tzatziki sauce
Step 1: Grate the cucumber
Peel the cucumber and scoop out the seeds. I use a simple teaspoon to scoop them. Then, place a sieve or a cheesecloth above a bowl and shred the cucumber inside it. Squeeze all the liquid out of the cucumber.
Step 2: Mix everything together
Pour Greek or natural yogurt into a bowl, add the squeezed cucumber, salt, a teaspoon of red wine vinegar, olive oil, pepper, oregano, one clove of garlic, a handful of fresh dill, and parsley or mint, and sprinkle some lemon juice.
Mix everything together, and there you have it — a homemade tzatziki sauce.
Final steps for the Greek chicken with tzatziki sauce
While I was preparing everything, I steamed some basmati rice in a rice cooker. Basmati goes amazingly well with this recipe. You can put a bay leaf inside or some cloves to make it even more delicious and aromatic.
Make a base out of the rice, add your patties, pour tzatziki sauce, add fresh vegetables like cucumber and cherry tomatoes, and sprinkle everything with fresh parsley and dill.
