About Messy Feast
Hey, it’s your cooking BFF Egle! Let’s get to know each other!
I’m a freelance copywriter by day and foodie 24/7. Join me on my journey of becoming a food blogger.
Let me tell you, cooking wasn’t my thing.
Since I was a child, I saw food as a source of energy or a way to drown my emotions. At home, we rarely sat down to eat dinners as a family. My mom would make tasty meals, only for everyone to take their plate and go back to their rooms. For the longest time, I thought that people ate at a dinner table only in American movies.
My journey to becoming a food blogger
I didn’t try cooking because I associated making food with unpaid domestic labor. Until I decided to become vegetarian and all of a sudden I had to make my own meals if I wanted to eat dishes without meat or fish. My journey to cooking started slowly with basic pasta recipes and veggie pizzas.
The more I cooked, the more I saw the beauty of it. Of course, back then I was still a rookie and my cooking was far from perfect (and to say delicious). But it was my beginning, learning about different vegetables, fruits, legumes, and other healthy and beautiful ingredients to enrich my diet.
My passion for food exploded once I started traveling. When I finished university, I spent a year working in Malaysia. I traveled to Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Hong Kong to discover the diverse world of flavors, smells, and traditions. Even though I was a vegetarian at the time, I got to taste some of my now favorite meals and find foods that painted the picture of my stay in Southeast Asia.
After coming back to Lithuania, I quickly set sail for the next destination – Tenerife, Canary Islands. And boy oh boy did it change my relationship with food.
Not long after, I began to eat more animal products. I couldn’t resist fresh seafood, savory grilled goods, and traditional Canarian cuisine — a mixture of Mediterranean, Spanish, and South American foods. Being in this environment inspired me to go all in with my passion for cooking.
Let the cooking begin
Tenerife was a place where I got to know the joy of cooking not only for myself but others, too. Seeing the joy my recipes brought to my partner and friends, and witnessing how my meals fostered connections among people, made me realize that food isn’t just a necessity.
Food is long conversations, breaking bread together, feeding your loved ones, sharing your favorite stories and recipes, and inviting people to cook together.
Food is a link between people, cultures, and countries. And my goal is to help you become a part of this amazing community with my easy European dishes for everyone.
Welcome to my blog and my culinary adventures. Let’s cook together and Skanaus!
